Bánh Mì
Vietnam
History
The bánh mì is a delicious product of French colonialism in Vietnam: the airy baguette is French, but the fillings are wholly Vietnamese — pate beside pickled daikon and carrot, cilantro, chili and savory pork. It took its modern form in 1950s Saigon and spread worldwide with the Vietnamese diaspora.
