Chipwich
New York City, USA
History
The Chipwich was created by Richard LaMotta and launched on the streets of New York City in 1981, sold from carts in Central Park and across Manhattan. The concept was simple and brilliant: take two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, sandwich premium vanilla ice cream between them, and roll the edges in mini chips. It became an instant street-food sensation and a defining New York summer treat of the 1980s.
Ingredients
- Two soft chocolate chip cookies
- Vanilla ice cream
- Mini chocolate chips (rolled around the edge)
