Chivito
Uruguay
History
Uruguay's national sandwich was born in the 1940s in Punta del Este when a cook, asked for a 'baby goat' (chivito), improvised with thin steak instead. It grew into a towering build of beef tenderloin, ham, mozzarella, bacon, egg and salad on a soft bun.
Ingredients
- Soft round bun
- Thin beef tenderloin (churrasco)
- Ham
- Mozzarella
- Bacon
- Fried egg
- Lettuce, tomato & mayonnaise
How to Make
- 1Griddle a thin slice of beef tenderloin and melt mozzarella over it.
- 2Toast the bun and spread with mayonnaise.
- 3Stack the steak with ham, bacon and a fried egg.
- 4Add lettuce and tomato.
- 5Close and serve, traditionally with fries.
