History
Nashville hot chicken was born here, per local legend, when Thornton Prince's girlfriend — furious at his late-night carousing — doused his fried chicken in a punishing amount of cayenne as revenge. He loved it, perfected it, and opened a chicken shack in the 1930s. Run by the Prince family for generations (long led by Thornton's great-niece André Prince Jeffries), it spawned an entire genre of food now copied worldwide — but this is the original.
