Primanti Brothers Sandwich
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
History
Primanti Brothers restaurant opened in Pittsburgh's Strip District in 1933, founded by Joe Primanti to feed the truck drivers and market workers who needed a fast, all-in-one meal. The genius was putting the coleslaw and french fries inside the sandwich so drivers could eat with one hand. It became a Pittsburgh institution and a symbol of the city's working-class identity, open nearly around the clock and beloved by generations of Pittsburghers.
