Mother's Restaurant

History

Mother's was opened in 1938 by Simon and Mary 'Mother' Landry on Poydras Street, and made its name on 'World's Best Baked Ham' and the po' boy. The signature Ferdi Special — ham, roast beef, debris, and gravy — was named for a regular customer, and the Landry family ran it for generations before new owners took over. It still serves the same cafeteria-style line that's fed dockworkers, tourists, and presidents alike.
